Coin Story

Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea, which grow to between 28–42 cm (11–17 in) in length. The name is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call. The single member of the genus Clytoceyx is commonly referred to as the shovel-billed kookaburra. The kookaburra's loud call sounds like echoing human laughter. They are found in habitats ranging from humid forest to arid savanna, as well as in suburban areas with tall trees or near running water. Kookaburras are not closely associated with water.

Reverse Design

The coin’s reverse depicts an irresistible coloured image capturing the curiosity and mischievousness of a beautiful baby kookaburra. As well as The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the design features a friendly Australian insect and delicately frosted representations of Australian bush flowers.

Obverse Design

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Packaging

The Australian Bush Babies II - Kookaburra silver coin is housed in a presentation display case and superbly illustrated shipper along with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
