Coin Story

Jellyfish exist in many different colors and sizes some even as big as a human. This series of coins represents those interesting – but sometimes annoying – creatures. More coins to be announced soon! Jellyfish are found in every ocean, from the surface to the deep sea. Some hydrozoan jellyfish, or hydromedusae, are also found in fresh water; freshwater species are less than an inch (25 mm) in diameter, are colorless and do not sting. Many of the best-known jellyfish, such as Aurelia, are scyphomedusae. These are the large, often colorful, jellyfish that are common in coastal zones worldwide.

Reverse Design

The reverse captures a Cotylorhiza Tuberculata. The jelly fish is depicted in full color, while the rest of the coin remains in silver. A vortex-like shape is engraved into the background of the coin. The name of the series "Jelly Fish" and the name of the species "Cotylorhiza Tuberculata" are also engraved into the coin.

Obverse Design

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination of the coin "$2", the issuing country "Pitcairn Islands" and the year of issue "2011".

Packaging

The Jelly Fish - Cotylorhiza Tuberculata silver proof coin comes encapsulated with a Certificate of Authenticity.
