Coin Story

Fangtooths are beryciform fish of the family Anoplogastridae (sometimes spelled "Anoplogasteridae") that live in the deep sea. The name is from Greek anoplo meaning "unarmed" and gaster meaning "stomach". With a circumglobal distribution in tropical and cold-temperate waters, the family contains only two very similar species, in one genus, with no known close relatives: the common fangtooth, Anoplogaster cornuta, found worldwide; and the shorthorned fangtooth, Anoplogaster brachycera, found in the tropical waters of the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean.

Reverse Design

The reverse captures a dangerous looking Anoplogaster Cornuta. The fish is fully colored and offsets itself from the rest of this silver proof coin. A haze-like shape is engraved into the background, adding more pathos to the coin. At the bottom, the name of the series "Deep Sea Fish" is featured. Next to it, you can read the name of the fish "Anoplogaster Cornuta". The Year of issue is also engraved on this side of the coin "2011".

Obverse Design

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination of the coin "$2", the issuing country "Pitcairn Islands" and the year of issue "2011".

The Deep Sea Fish - Anoplogaster Cornuta silver proof coin comes encapsulated with a Certificate of Authenticity.
