Coin Story

The Clover Leaf Egg was made in 1902 of gold, platinum, rose-cut diamonds, rubies and bright green, transparent enamel. Tsar Nicholas II presented this jeweled egg as an Easter gift to his wife, Alexandra Fyodorovna. Thanks to extremely fragile and precise structure the egg is considered one of the finest examples of the jeweler’s art in the world. The transparent enamel was a new method in art, which placed on the Egg with no supporting base, looks perfectly smooth till nowadays. The “surprise” from inside of the egg has been lost but according to the archives four leaves with 23 diamonds and 4 portrait miniatures of princesses, daughters of Tsar couple. The Clover Leaf Egg never left Russia and is since 1933 housing in the Kremlin Armoury Museum in Moscow. Because of its fragile nature, The Clover Leaf Egg does not travel.
