Coin Story

Snakes bring luck and wealth. They have had a special and respected place in various cultures. Even in the ancient times snakes were associated with power. It is also believed that they are a symbol of wisdom and spiritual energy – this is why in the Tibetan culture they are carried as amulets. In the Buddhist culture, for a change, snakes are considered to be sacred animals, providing protection and safety as they might help humans uncover their inner force. When it comes to India, a pair of snakes is worshipped as a symbol of fertility.

Reverse Design

In the central part of the coin - an image of a pair of snakes depicted using the gilding technology. In the background – leaves and grass. Below it, a filigree insert in the shape of a small snake, plated with 24-carat gold. Under the following there is an inscription: THE SNAKE 2013.

Obverse Design

At the top of the coin - the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Above it - a semi-circular inscription: ELIZABETH II NIUE ISLAND. Below the portrait of the Queen, a filigree insert in the shape of a little snake. Under the portrait of the Queen, to the left - the mint mark (m/w). At the bottom, semi-circular inscriptions: ONE DOLLAR (the face value) and 2012 (the year of issue).
