Coin Story

Nicholas I was the Emperor of Russia, the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Finland. He was the younger brother of his childless predecessor, Alexander I. Nicholas inherited his brother's throne despite the failed Decembrist revolt against him, and went on to become the most reactionary of Russian monarchs. In his last years, Nicholas I led the Imperial Russian Army in the unsuccessful Crimean War. However, he was also instrumental in helping to create an independent Greek state, and also seized more territories in the Caucasus. On the eve of his death, the Russian Empire reached its historical zenith, spanning over 20 million square kilometers.

Reign: 1. December 1825 – 2. March 1855
Coronation: 3. September 1826
Predecessor: Alexander I
Successor: Alexander II

Reverse Design

The coin depicts the Emperor Nicholas I. The character offsets itself from the finely engraved background, due to the applied color. Also, the coin is embellished with 24k gold-plating and two blue crystals. The name of the Emperor, as well as the number of the coin, is punched into the edge of the coin.

Obverse Design

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It is surrounded by beautiful ornaments, which give the coin a very special touch.

The coin comes inside an elegant and rich wooden box, which is made from parts of real Karelian Birch. It is in a beautiful case, which is doing a great job in staging this remarkable coin. The Certificate of Authenticity (matching the number of the coin) is displayed on the inner packaging.
