Coin Story

This convex shaped silver proof coin is dedicated to the "Orthodox Shrines". One of the most revered saints, after the Virgin Mary, is the “Saint of God”, Bishop Nicholas of Myra. He was born in 257 in the seaside town of Patara (Lycia) in Asia, a minor province of the Roman Empire, as the son of an elderly couple. From his childhood on, Nicholas helped anyone in need of help, continually doing good deeds; however, he did it in secret. Over time, people knew who committed these miracles, and his fame spread throughout the province. St. Nicholas the Archbishop served until his death, simultaneously performing good deeds, and became known around the world. The “Saint of God” glorified many miracles in the name of God, hence his nickname "The Miracle Worker". He is revered by all Christians: Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants.

Reverse Design

The reverse design depicts St. Nicholas. The character is designed to match the original icon and offsets itself against the reflecting silver proof background. Parts of his clothes, his halo and the border of the coin are gilded.

Obverse Design

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The coin is packaged inside an elegant and rich wooden box. It is in a beautiful case, which is doing a great job in staging this remarkable coin. The Certificate of Authenticity is displayed on the inner packaging.
