Coin Story

Saint Blessed Ksenia of Petersburg is a patron saint of St. Petersburg.
She was born in Petersburg about 1731 and died there about 1803. She was married to Colonel Andrey Fyodorovich Petrov, a chanter at the Saint Andrew Cathedral. After his death, she gave all her possessions to the poor. Ksenia became a "fool-for-Christ" and for 45 years wandered around the streets of St. Petersburg, usually wearing her late husband's military uniform. Her grave is in the Smolensky Cemetery of St. Petersburg. She was canonised by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988. This coin starts a new program "Saints of the cities".

Reverse Design

The reverse features the image of the Saint Ksenia on the background of a chapel built in 1902 over her grave in the Smolensk Cemetery in St. Petersburg.
Inscription: "Saint Ksenia of Petersburg" in Russian language and the hallmark "Ag 925".

Obverse Design

The obverse features the standard effigy of Elizabeth II, inscriptions: "Elizabeth II", "Niue", as well as "2012"and "One dollar".
