Coin Story

Britain rejoiced at the news of the safe arrival of Prince George of Cambridge. Coins struck to welcome the new Prince – the first struck for a Royal birth – were so popular they sold out in days. And as Prince George is christened The Royal Mint strikes a range of premium coins in another first, for coins have never before been issued for a Royal christening. Among them is the Kilo coin, the largest UK coin, destined to find its way to only the most exclusive collections.

Reverse Design

At over 100mm in diameter and containing a kilogramme of silver it is a mighty tribute, every detail of the christening design – a first for Britain’s coinage – is perfected by our world-renowned quality. John Bergdahl, the artist who created Britain’s last Kilo for the 60th Anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation, has recalled Royal tradition in art with an opulent baroque design of lilies and cherubs.

Obverse Design

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination of the coin.
