Coin Story

Apart from the fairy tales which are well-known around the world, the Fairy Tales series also presents national fairy tales with a universal message. The images on the coins are little gems which capture many symbols due to which the fairy tales are no more ordinary narratives but touch upon the world of magic.

The Stone Flower is a Russian folk fairy tale written down by a Russian folklorist and writer – Pavel Bazhov. He tells the story of a gifted young man Danilo who has a dream, namely, carving out of malachite a flower which is so perfect that it looks very lifelike. To achieve his goal, Danilo leaves his beloved one and heads for the kingdom of the Mistress of Copper Mountain from where there is no return. His fiancée, Katerina, finds him after long years of search and, in the name of love, Danilo abandons everything the Mistress of Copper Mountain has offered to him. Still, she is so moved by his conduct that she does not deprive Danilo of extraordinary skills he has acquired during his stay in the kingdom. The Stone Flower is a fairy tale about the need to set aims of life and a quest for an ideal solution, devotion and loyalty to a beloved one.
