The sixth of the spectacular series 'The Renaissance Madonna' which captures the most beautiful artworks of the Renaissance period. The program honors the most renowned painters and sculptors in the history of art that have turned their skills toward the creation of Madonna images. This incredible proof coin celebrates Madonna under the fir tree, Lucas Cranach the Elder.

Madonna under the Fire Tree is one of the Cranach's most elaborate and highly prized Madonnas, completed around 1510 for the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Breslau, Bohemia (now Wroclaw, Poland).

Reverse Design

The centre of the coins reverse composition features a full colored copy of the world famous painting of the Renaissance period: the Madonna under The Fire Tree painted by the German Renaissance artist Lucas Cranach. A Russian design studio is responsible for all designs, combining historical paintings with modern numismatic technology. The image is surrounded by finely engraved ornaments and statues. At the bottom, the name of the artist is featured.

Obverse Design

The obverse of each coin features the coat of arms of Andorra, the year of issue "2013" and the denomination of the coin. The lower part of the obverse features multiple ornaments and references to paintings, such as brushes and paint scales.
