Coin Story

The final release in this charming series features the clipper, Cutty Sark, built in 1869 at Dumbarton, Scotland. The famous Scottish Poet Robbie Burns coined the expression ‘cutty sark’ in his poem Tam o’ Shanter (1791) referring to a short nightdress – hence the ship’s unusual moniker.

Reverse Design

The coin’s reverse depicts a representation of the Cutty Sark in full sail set against a coloured globe map and the inscription CUTTY SARK. The design also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Obverse Design

Issued as Tuvalu legal tender, the coin’s obverse depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination.

The Ships That Changed the World - Cutty Sark silver coin is encapsulated inside a prestigious display case and themed shipper, the coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
