Coin Story

The "Madonna under the Fir Tree" is a piece of art painted by Lucas Cranach the Elder in 1510. Lost in Poland during World War II, the masterpiece was kept for many years in private and ecclesiastical collections. Decades after it went missing, on 27th July 2012, the painting was returned to its rightful owner – the Archdiocese Museum in Wroclaw.

Reverse Design

In the centre of the coin – a pad-printed reproduction of the "Madonna under the Fir Tree" painting. On both sides of the reproduction – selectively gold-plated subtitles, on the right of the reproduction - an inscription in English: “Madonna under the Fir Tree ", on the left side – an inscription in Polish: “Madonna pod Jodłami. On the left side of the coin, along the rim – an ornament made in exceptional technology of selective gold plating.

Obverse Design

In the centre of the coin – selectively gold-plated stylized ornaments inspired by Renaissance art. Below them, in the background – an intricate frosted image of an attic. At the bottom, on the left side - a bust of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On the left side, along the rim - the face value (1 dollar) and the issuer (Niue Island). In the bottom right corner - the year of issue (2013).
