Coin Story

Angkor Wat in Cambodia is one of the most famous temple complexes. It was erected by King Suryavarman II. in the 12th century. Ângkôr means „city“ and Vôtt means „temple complex“. The position of the Angkos Wat is unusual. It is oriented towards West. West is the cardinal direction of Yamas – God of death. Therefore the facility signifies a gravesite although this has not yet been proven. It is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 1992.

Reverse Design

The reverse features the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It is finely engraved into the background of the coin. The surroundings offset themselves against the silver proof background, due to the applied color. The image is very detailed and beautifully designed. You can also see the reflection of the Angkor Wat in the lake in front of it.

Obverse Design

The front of the coin depicts the South Sea Island of Palau’s coat of arms – a sea god with a mermaid and a boat typical of Oceania. The name of the issuing nation ‘REPUBLIC OF PALAU’ appears along the top edge and the face value of ‘5 $’ is indicated in the exergue.

The World of Wonders Angkor Wat coin comes encapsuled with a Certificate of Authenticity.
