Coin Story

The domestic Bengal cat is the fourth or subsequent generation of a wild leopard cat. This gorgeous and intelligent feline is an inquisitive and entertaining companion. The Latin name (bengalensis) of the species comes from the place of finding the first specimen that was noticed when it was swimming in the Bay of Bengal. In Chinese tradition wild Bengal cats called cash cats (in Chinese "chinch`ien mao") are considered to be the animals bringing good luck and success. Their spotted fur and rosettes resemble Chinese coins.

Reverse Design

In the central part – a multi-coloured image of a Bengal cat. In the background – an image of a cat of this breed recreated in relief. Above – the name of the breed in English and Polish: BENGAL CAT / KOT BENGALSKI. Along the rim – decorative elements depicting cat paw prints.

Obverse Design

In the central part of the coin – a profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Below – inscriptions: Ag 999 (the hallmark), m/w (the mint mark). Along the rim – inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, NIUE ISLAND (the issuer), 1 DOLLAR (the face value) and the year of issue: 2014.
