Coin Story

Sorbus hajastana (Rowan) is a beautiful shrub or tree with broadly-pyramidal crown and reddish-grey is 8-10 m tall. Flowers are white, anthers pink. Fruits are large, shiny and crimson. Sorbus hajastana blooms in June on rocky slopes and forests edges at 1600-2400 m above sea level. In Armenia it is met in the basin of the Lake Sevan and at slopes of the mountain Arailer.

Reverse Design

The reverse features an image of a Sorbus Hajastana flower with leaves, partially coloured and partially polished relief, "Sorbus Hajastana" (in Latin and Armenian), and the hallmark "Ag 925".

The obverse features a coloured Sorbus Hajastana flower, and linear design, nominal value - 1000 dram, "Republic of Armenia" (in Armenian and English), "2011".
