Coin Story

Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde is a retired turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner or supersonic transport (SST). It is one of only two SSTs to have entered commercial service; the other was the Tupolev Tu-144. Concorde was jointly developed and produced by Aérospatiale and the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) under an Anglo-French treaty. It featured a maximum speed of Mach 2.04 with seating for 92 to 128 passengers. First flown in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued commercial flights for 27 years.
In 2008 to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the decommissioning of Concorde the Royal Mint has struck a limited edition 5oz solid .925 Sterling Silver Proof £10 Ten Pound coin.

Reverse Design

The reverse of the coin shows the Concorde enclosed within a pattern of concentric circles representing the sonic boom produced when she exceeds the speed of sound.

Obverse Design

The obverse shows the Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as "Alderney" and the year of issue "2008".

The Alderney Concorde - 5oz silver coin comes in a presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
