Coin Story

The Neuschwanstein Castle is annually visited by about 1.2 million tourists and is considered to be one of the most beautiful and famous castles in the world. King Ludwig II of Bavaria erected a memorial for himself when he commissioned this fairy-tale castle in 1869. The ruler was only able to live in the romantic Neuschwanstein for a few months. The construction created immense expenses so that after the Kings death in 1886 a great deal of planed labour on the castle was discontinued and to this day has not been completed in the sense of the royal builder.

Reverse Design

The reverse features the Neuschwanstein Castle. It is finely engraved into the background of the coin. The rooftops, the entrance and the surroundings offset themselves from the background, due to the applied color. The image is very detailed and beautifully designed.

Obverse Design

The front of the coin depicts the South Sea Island of Palau’s coat of arms – a sea god with a mermaid and a boat typical of Oceania. The name of the issuing nation ‘REPUBLIC OF PALAU’ appears along the top edge and the face value of ‘5 $’ is indicated in the exergue.

Packaging

The World of Wonders Neuschwanstein Castle coin comes encapsuled with a Certificate of Authenticity.
