Coin Story

This convex shaped gilded silver coin is dedicated to the "Orthodox Shrines". Saint George is shown with the dragon, which, as legend has it, he has killed, saving the daughter of the king of Lydia. A Christian tribune in the Roman army, George is fancifully dressed in allantica armour. His broken lance pierces the dragon's head. Saint George is shown, in contemporary XV century armour, with the dragon he slew. This one, of three panels, is from the altarpiece painted for a Dominican church in the Marchigian town of Ascoli Piceno.

Reverse Design

The reverse depicts Saint George standing over the slayed dragon. The character is beautifully designed and offsets itself against the finely engraved gilded background. The coin matches the original "Saint George" painting by Carlo Crivelli, located in the Italian Metropolitan Museum.

Obverse Design

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The coin is packaged inside an elegant, dark blue wooden box. It is in a beautiful case, which is doing a great job in staging the remarkable coin. The Certificate of Authenticity is displayed on the inner packaging.
