Coin Story

Having taken monastic vows, Seraphim, born Prokhor Moshnin, became a Russian ascetic who lived in the 17th c. in the monastery in Sarov. He is considered a miracle-worker and a prophet. He came from a merchant family. Seraphim is the author of numerous prophetic notes made public by Nilus after 70 years of oblivion. According to him, the acquisition of the Holy Spirit is the main aim of the Christian life. St. Seraphim is commemorated on January 2 and on the day commemorating the opening of the relics of the saint – July 19.

Reverse Design

In the central part of the coin there is an image of Saint Seraphim of Sarov surrounded by 4 red and green zircon crystals. Above the relief, on a circle, there is the name of the saint in Belarusian – “Преподобный Серафим Саровский”.

Obverse Design

In the central part of the coin, in the background of an ornament, there is an image of an Orthodox church. On the edge of the coin there is a semicircular inscription “РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ” (the Republic of Belarus), separated by the emblem of Belarus. Below the name of the series in Belarusian “ПРАВОСЛАВНЫЕ СВЯТЫЕ”. On the left, there is the face value of the coin “10 РУБЛЁЎ” (10 roubles), on the right – the year of issue, silver alloy (Ag 925) and a mint mark – MW.
