Coin Story

The Hyacinth Macaw is the biggest and one of the most beautiful birds of the Psittaciformes. Unfortunately, these qualities have made them valuable hunting preys, what has a significant impact on the decreasing population of this wonderful species that accounts not more than 5,000 representatives.

Reverse Design

In the central part of the coin – two multi-coloured images of the Hyacinth Macaw. Below – an image of a map, showing the location of occurrence of the bird. Along the rim – inscriptions: ENDANGERED ANIMAL SPECIES (the name of the series), HYACINTH MACAW (the name of the coin).

Obverse Design

In the central part of the coin – an image of a tree with images representing animals, which are the themes of the coins of the series. Above – a miniature profile picture of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the mint mark (m/w). Along the rim – inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, NIUE ISLAND (the issuer), 1 DOLLAR (the face value), 2014 (the year of issue), Ag 999 (the hallmark).
