Coin Story

The Lhotse, which is the fourth highest mountain on earth, is located in the Himalayan mountain range on the border between China and Nepal and is one of only 14 so-called Eight-thousanders. On May 18th, 1956 an eleven-man Swiss expedition successfully completed the first ascent to the top of the 8516 m Lhotse. The name Lhotse means “South Peak” in Tibetan.

Reverse Design

The reverse captures the Lhotse. The mountain is finely engraved into the silver proof coin. In the bottom right corner of the coin you will find the signature flora of the region.

Obverse Design

The front of the coin depicts the South Sea Island of Palau’s coat of arms. The name of the issuing nation ‘REPUBLIC OF PALAU’ appears along the top edge and the face value of ‘5 $’ is indicated in the exergue.

The Mountains & Flora - Lhotse coin comes encapsuled with a Certificate of Authenticity.
