Coin Story

Wassily Kandinsky (4 December 1866 - 13 December 1944) was a Russian painter, and art theorist. He is credited with painting of the first purely abstract works. Kandinsky's creation of purely abstract work followed a long period of development and maturation of intense theoretical thought based on his personal artistic experiences. He called this devotion to inner beauty, fervor of spirit, and deep spiritual desire inner necessity, which was a central aspect of his art.
Together with Franz Marc, he founded the Der Blaue Reiter group, which led to the birth of fauvism in France. Later, he taught at the Bauhaus in Germany until it closed in 1933.
